Definition
Component, material, or system whose failure endangers safety or survivability of personnel, or which (1) is essential for the firm's continued operations, (2) is in short supply and has long lead time, (3) is expensive, (4) has high maintenance requirements, or (5) requires special handling procedures. Also called critical material, critical system, or critical stock.
