digital to analog (D-A) conversion
Definition
Required for physical representation or reading, seeing, or hearing of digital (computer processed) data and for its transmission over ordinary (analog) telephone lines. This conversion is performed by specialized computer chips similar to those found in modems (which are actually A-D and D-A converters).
