discretionary bonus
Definition
A monetary payment for rewarding performance at the sole discretion of the employer that will not affect the pay rate of the employee. To qualify, a bonus must not be used as an incentive, which means it cannot be made with prior notice and its amount cannot be linked to specific performance numbers.
