domestic relations order (DRO)
Definition
A judgment or court order concerning the distribution of assets and benefits after a divorce. The order may address topics such as child support, alimony, or marital property rights. A qualified domestic relations order is a provision of a divorce agreement that recognizes the right of an ex-spouse to receive a defined portion of the other party's retirement plan.
