Method of computing depreciation in which the written-down or book value of a capital asset is reduced by double the depreciation rate of the straight line depreciation method. Suitable where the usage of the asset declines with the asset's age, it is one of the two methods under accelerated depreciation technique; for the second method see sum of the years' digits depreciation.
