Definition
A provision in a life insurance policy, usually added as a rider that will release a stated portion of the death benefit to the policyholder to cover costs associated with the care and treatment of a serious illness or disease such as cancer. The rider, which typically expires when the policyholder reaches age 65, specifies which illnesses and treatments are covered.
