energy efficiency ratio (EER)
Definition
Measure of the relative (and not overall) efficiency of a cooling or heating appliance or equipment, expressed as the ratio of output, (in British thermal units or Btus) per hour to the energy consumed (in watts). See also coefficient of performance (COP) and energy factor (EF).
