event-triggered counting method

Definition

An inventory control method which mandates that when a specific event occurs, a physical inventory count for the stock-keeping unit (SKU) item in question is initiated. This might be set to occur when the control database suggests that the inventory level has dropped below the reorder point. A variety of different triggers can be defined depending on the specific needs of the business. For manufacturers, a physical inventory can be triggered by each individual production run.
