exclusion of witnesses
Definition
Rule of evidence that requires all witnesses (except the defendant and the plaintiff) to remain outside the courtroom until each is called to testify. Its objective is to prevent the witnesses from being influenced by one another's testimony. It also prohibits a witness from discussing his or testimony with other witnesses before testifying.
