extraordinary gain
Definition
An exceptional, non-recurring profit not derived from normal company operations. For example, if a company received a large payment from the sale of a subsidiary, this would be an extraordinary gain. Corporations must report extraordinary gains (and losses) on their annual and quarterly reports.
