faking the count
Definition
The practice of changing the inventory number in a cycle count program to make it match what was expected from the physical count. The computer database number should reflect the physical count. Mismatches do occur because of either unaccounted inventory loss or computer operator error. These numbers must be put back into sync so that warehouse managers can track and identify problems as they occur.
