fatalism
Definition
Belief that every event is predetermined and, irrespective of the attempts to influence it, could not have happened otherwise. Fatalism does not recognize 'free will,' the human faculty employed in choosing and acting according to one's own judgment. Not to be confused with determinism which states that every event follows a cause-and-effect sequence and can be influenced by human action.
