Definition
A statement that must be filed if a business owner chooses to do business using a name other than their name of legal record. A fictitious name statement connects a business alias to the person operating the business, and is required in order to protect consumers in the event that a lawsuit must be filed due to damages incurred from actions taken or negligence committed by the business owner.
