five year rule
Definition
An alternative method a plan beneficiary can select for receiving the distributions of a plan holder who dies prior to the required beginning date when distributions must commence. Instead of receiving the distributions throughout life expectancy, the beneficiary would receive the funds, in total, by the end of the fifth year after the death of the plan holder.
