floating point notation
Definition
Method in which numbers are represented as decimal fractions and exponents, therefore the relative position of the decimal is not fixed but 'floats.' For example, the number 109,000 is represented as 0.109 x 106 where 0.109 is the decimal part (called mantissa) and 6 is the exponent (also called characteristic). See also scientific notation.
floating point notation is in the Statistics, Mathematics, & Analysis subject.
