fluoridation
Definition
Addition of fluorides (often as sodium monoflurophosphate) to drinking-water, aimed at lowering tooth decay rate of general population. One part per million (1 ppm) of fluorine ions in water (given during tooth development period) is found effective in reducing dental cavities throughout life, but higher amounts can cause fluororsis.
