fluorides
Definition
Gaseous, dissolved, or solid compounds which contain fluorine and are generated by some industrial processes. Excessive amounts of fluorides in food or water can cause fluorosis in animals and humans. Extremely small concentrations (low as 0.005 part per million or ppm) are known to blight maize, and even smaller amounts (0.001 ppm) can lower citrus production.
