Definition

Highly poisonous greenish-yellow gas used in the manufacture of halogenated hydrocarbons or chlorofluoromethanes used in some aerosol propellants. One of the most-reactive elements known, fluorine readily combines with other elements (such as hydrogen and sodium) to produce fluorides.
