forced count

Definition

Any inventory count that is required for audit purposes rather than a scheduled count that is a normal part of business operations. A forced count might be undertaken to reconcile discrepancies such as significant mismatches in the database, to investigate potential losses from theft, or to cooperate with inspectors sent by a government agency.
