Definition
Holdings of foreign currency held by a government. A substantial foreign reserve of consistently stable currencies, such as a reserve currency like the dollar or the Euro, can dampen the effect of inflation or of a currency crisis. Also called currency reserve, forex reserve. See also central bank.
