1. Banking: Interest charges or fees that are higher in the early years of a loan, such as in a home mortgage where interest may comprise 90 percent or more of monthly installment amount.
2. Investing: Fees and charges that an investor has to pay at the time of initial purchase of annuities, life insurance policies, mutual fund shares (unit trust units), etc. See also back end load.
