Definition
A type of planning technique in which a company sets goals for several years in advance, and then plans the steps needed to reach those goals from completion to start. For example, a domestic company that wants to expand into a foreign country in five years would start to plan backwards, from the delivery of the product in the foreign country to increasing domestic capacity to be able to ship products abroad.
