gauge blocks
Definition
Blocks of ceramic or metal that have been crafted with extreme precision to exact lengths of units of measure, used for measurement standardization in manufacturing and other industries. The technique for generating the blocks and using them to standardize measurements was developed by Swedish machinist Carl E. Johansson in 1886. Also called Johansson Blocks and Jo Blocks.
