halogen
Definition
Member of the group of five chemicals, one of which (bromine) is a liquid, two (astatine and iodine) are solids, and other two (chlorine and fluorine) are gases. All of them are poisonous and extremely reactive (oxidizing agents), give off pungent and colored fumes, and are classified as non-metals. See also halon.
