Definition
An equity security with an especially good quality credit rating that typically offers superior voting privileges, dividends and liquidation priorities to shareholders compared to the company's common shares. The price of high grade preferred stock tends to be more stable than common stock due to its greater dependence on the dividend paid out by its issuing business.
