hydrogen sulphide (H2S)
Definition
Toxic and flammable gas with an obnoxious odor, formed during decomposition of organic (animal and plant) matter, but generated largely by oil burning and refining processes. It smells like rotten eggs, irritates eyes, and when inhaled in low concentrations, irritates respiratory tract. Higher concentrations can cause breathing difficulty, nausea, vomiting, and even death.
