Definition
A hypothesis test, or test of two contradictory potential solutions to a problem, used to draw inferences about the proportion of members of a population that have a specific characteristic. A hypothesis test for proportions measures the proportions of members with the characteristic in one or more samples from the population in order to gauge the proportions that exist in the population itself.
