illusory promise

Definition

A statement which appears to be formed into a legal contract but includes the option for the person making a promise to have no actual obligation to perform as stated. The agreement is typically very indefinite and there is no guarantee the stated actions will be taken regardless of whether or not they get paid or other such compensation from the other person.
