indictment
Definition
Formal, written accusation of a specified indictable offense submitted by a jury to a court, and read out to the accused(s). It typically contains (1) particulars of the accused(s) and venue of the crime, (2) statement of the offense, and (3) particulars of the offense. Filing of criminal charges by a competent authority may also be given the status of an indictment.
