informed compliance
Definition
A standard implemented by US Customs agency in the early 1990's to increase the compliance by exporters when dealing with a nation's trade laws. Informed compliance involves the education of importers on the methods for classifying and assigning a value to their merchandise and to ensure familiarity with laws and regulations of the Customs agency. A checklist was developed and issued by Customs to assist importers in following proper guidelines.
