inquisitorial system
Definition
Judicial system of trial in civil-law countries (most of Europe other than UK, Latin America, US state of Louisiana, and Canada's Quebec province). In this system, the judge conducting the trial determines what questions to ask and defines the scope of the case under a highly structured and rigid code of rules. See also adversary system.
