intelligent processing equipment (IPE)
Definition
Computer controlled machines used in manufacturing processes such as forging, forming, joining, machining, inspecting, testing, and material handling. IPEs add artificial intelligence to the programmability and flexibility of electronically controlled equipment enabling them to 'sense' the characteristics of the item being worked on, and automatically adjust their operations accordingly.
