Definition
Fees charged to merchant banks by credit card issuing banks to cover the cost of converting credit charges to cash deposits in the merchant's account. Fees range from 1 percent to 2 percent and they cover the issuing banks expenses for billing services and credit fraud, and are a primary source of their profits.
