interrogatories

Definition

Written questions submitted (with the court's permission) by one party to a civil suit to the opposing party on any matter relevant to the case. The opposing party must answer in writing, under oath (which makes the answers binding), and within the period allowed by the court. The objective of the interrogatory process is to obtain admissions of the crucial facts, and to limit the opposing party's case.
