inventory profit
Definition
The gain in asset values derived from the price appreciation of inventory on hand that is reflected in the balance sheet. Often occurs with commodity-based inventory that is sensitive to inflation or currency valuations. Inventory profit is considered to be a fictitious capital gain because it is unrealized and unexpendable.
