jobless recovery
Definition
An economic phenomenon where after experiencing recession, the macroeconomy starts growing again (i.e. recovering), while unemployment levels remain constant or continue to rise. Though a term first officially coined in the 1930's by the New York Times, jobless recovery features in many recessions and recoveries in the past few centuries, with the unemployment rate on occasion taking several years or more to recover to pre-recession levels.
