jus solis
Definition
Legal rule that a person's citizenship is determined by his or her place of birth and not by the citizenship of his or her parents (by 'blood'). This rule is followed mainly Canada and US both of which were built by immigrants. Other countries follow the jus sanguinis rule is instead.
