Definition
Official standard of maturity attaining which a person acquires full legal rights, as well as responsibilities for his or her acts and omissions. Although an age of 18-years (adulthood) is commonly considered the legal age, it is not a universally accepted standard and varies among jurisdictions and for activities such as drinking, driving, getting married, voting in elections. Also called adulthood, age of capacity, age of majority, full age, or majority.
