letter of moral intent

Definition

A letter from a parent company to a bank that represents the good-faith intention of the parent company to continue financial support for a subsidiary that is working to borrow money from the bank. While this letter is not a binding contract of support for the subsidiary, it does verify awareness and approval of the parent company that the subsidiary is borrowing money.
