lifestyle creep
Definition
An improvement in the standard of living of people to the extent that luxury goods turn into necessary goods. The improvement may come about as a result of increase in the income or reduction of cost. For example, a family who doesn't generally buy a dishwasher, but rents it instead, will most likely buy one if their income increases relatively closer to the cost of buying a dishwasher.
