load balancing

Definition

The act of spreading work out between multiple computers in an effort to not overload one machine. By balancing the work load out, the user limits the chances of machine failure from too many processes going on at one time. Load balancing also allows the work to be accomplished faster. Popular websites typically implement load balancing to allow their website to respond quicker to requests made by users.
