Definition
Measure in which each unit increase or decrease represents tenfold increase or decrease in the quantity being measured. A pH reading (see pH scale) of 5, for example, indicates 10 times the acidity of 4, and 100 times the acidity of 3; 1/10th the acidity of 6, and 1/100th the acidity of 7.
