longterm equity anticipation security (LEAPS)
Definition
US call or put option on securities and indexes which has long expiration date (two to five years instead of the usual nine months) and is traded on the stock exchanges and over the counter. LEAPS allow investors to have long-term investment strategy without purchasing the underlying instrument.
