loss settlement
Definition
Homeowners are for the most part required to carry insurance for 80% of the value of their home in order to receive a full settlement from their insurance company in the event of a loss as a result of fire, accident or an act of God. If the homeowner carries insurance that covers less than 80% of the value of the home, the reimbursement by their insurance company will not cover the entire cost of the loss.
