Definition
Severe parasitic-disease of tropics spread by infected Anopheles mosquito. After an incubation period of one week to 10 months it manifests in symptoms such as anemia, chills, enlarged spleen, flu-like fever, headache, and muscle ache, which may recur in cycles after subsiding. Found in 103 tropical countries, it affects 300 to 500 million people annually causing over two million deaths, most of them children in sub-Sahara Africa.
