mechanism design theory
Definition
Attempts to identify the gaps in the concept of what a product is worth as seen from the different viewpoints of the consumer vs. the supplier. The supplier wants to maximize the cost whereas the consumer wants it minimized. Auctions are seen as an effective mechanism to neutralize these differences since both sides are simultaneously involved in determining the value of a product.
