midterm bargaining
Definition
Negotiation of the terms of a labor contract during the period in which the contract is in force, instead of negotiating when the contract is being initiated or renewed. Most union contracts restrict mid-term bargaining concerning matters covered by the contract, allowing mid-term bargaining only on new issues or issues not contained in the contract.
