monoline

Definition

A financial company that deals specifically with one particular branch of the financial industry. It chooses one product to focus on, such as credit cards or a particular kind of loan, and then it can become very specialized in all the aspects of that particular service. This gives a company the opportunity to become very good at what it does, because it doesn't need to divide its time, attention, and resources over a wide variety of products, and so these companies are often very competitive.
