multiple column tariff

Definition

A system of tariff that charges different tariff rates for the same kind of goods based on the country of origin of the goods. In this system of tariff, lower tariff is imposed on goods from developing worlds compared to goods from developed country, in order to improve the economy of developing countries by making their goods more competitive. The opposite of this tariff is the "single tariff system", which indiscriminately charges same tariff rate or import tax on similar types of goods regardless of its country of origin.
