negative account employer
Definition
An employer that has paid more in unemployment benefits to its employees than it has contributed to its unemployment insurance (UI) account with the state. If an employer's unemployment reserve account is found to be negative during the review period set by the state, that employer's UI tax rate and insurance premiums increase until such time that the account balance becomes positive.
